We’ve had a fabulous cider apple and perry pear pressing season, with the weather being incredibly kind and a very good crop coming in from the orchards. Our cider press (which we’ve now learned is the only one of its kind in the country) performed wonderfully. And at time of writing, the gurgle and burble of approximately 60,000 litres of fermenting cider and perry fills the air!

We pressed our classic varieties of Yarlington Mill, Browns and Dabinett/Michelin cider apples, plus some Blakeney Red perry pears. We’ve been tinkering and yeasting for several weeks. Never in the whole history of UK cider making has so much stainless steel been power-washed by so few hands. All part of the long process of returning the cider shed to normal!
Cracking Christmas ideas
We’re delighted to report that we have some great ideas for Christmas. Thankfully, many UK cider drinkers no longer consider cider as something just for the summer. We see strong sales over the Christmas period in particular, of our bottled cider and our bag-in-box cider too.
This year, we can offer you an absolutely delicious mulled cider as a in bag-in-box. If you’re a trade customer, you simply need a tea urn in order to heat it up. We tried it for the first time last year and it sold out so please be quick if you would like to order some! Also consider our suitably festive red and white gift boxes (which come in 3- and 6-bottle versions). They make cracking presents for cider lovers. Other gift ideas include Ty Gwyn Blackcurrant Coulis (winner of a Great Taste 2 Gold Star) and Ty Gwyn Elderflower Cordial (concentrate in 75cl bottles).
T-shirts for staff
Finally, for our trade customers, a quick reminder that we have a small quantity of Ty Gwyn T-shirts for staff who’ve been doing a good job of selling our cider! We have them in men’s XL, and a women’s L size (which equates to about a 12/14). Let us know let us if you’d like one. By the way, we’ll be here throughout Christmas and New Year, so if you run out on Boxing Day don’t be afraid to call us and we’ll do our utmost to re-supply you!
